Obituary

Virginia Ritter, age 103, of Clinton St., Warsaw, passed away Thursday, September 24th, 2015 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, October 2nd, 1911, daughter of the late Lloyd and Emily Wyatt Ritter. A lifetime resident of Friendship, of Warsaw since 1983, and a 1930 graduate of Friendship High School, Virginia completed a business course at the former Friendship Term School of the Perry Business School of Brunswick, GA in 1931. She worked as a clerk in the Friendship dry goods store, then as book keeper and clerk in the former LeSuer Hardware store in Friendship. Virginia served as clerk-treasurer of the former Village of Friendship for 23 years, retiring in 1975, and serving as Friendship town tax collector for 8 years. She was a 50 year member of the National Society United States Daughters of the War of 1812, a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Auxiliary and the Warsaw Golden Agers. Virginia was predeceased by a cousin, Rita Zielinski. Survivors include a cousin, Kathleen (Lawrence) Abendschein of North Java and her close friend, Sybil Landcastle of Warsaw. Friends of Virginia may call Thursday, October 1st, 2015 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Friday, October 2nd at 10am with Rev. Dr. Barbara Therese officiating. Burial will follow in the Warsaw Cemetery.
