Obituary

Sidney Ann Potter, age 85, of Prospect Street, Fillmore, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the Houghton Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Sidney was born in Fillmore, a daughter of the late Ivan and Marjorie Silliman Vedder. She graduated from Fillmore Central in 1958 and married the love of her life, Melvin L. Potter, on August 8, 1958. They remained in Fillmore their entire lives, raising a beautiful family together.

Sidney had a vibrant love for life and a joyful love for shopping. She adored and cherished her children and grandchildren and tended to her flowers and yard with the same care and love she poured into her family. A dedicated homemaker, Sidney took great pride in raising her family and guiding them as they grew, from her children all the way down to her great-grandchildren.

What made Sidney truly special was the way she made every person feel at home—whether through a warm meal, a listening ear, or the simple magic she had for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. Her presence was a gentle light in the lives of all who knew her, and her legacy continues to bloom in the generations she nurtured.

Sidney was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin; a brother, Robert Vedder; and a sister, Donna Brown.

Survivors include her four sons, Dana (Courtney) Potter, Melvin (Shanda) Potter, Chad (Mandy) Potter, and Cory (Tammy) Potter, all of Fillmore; a daughter, Leilani (Matt) Martin of Portageville; a sister, Jeanette Moore of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in the spring with concurrent burials of both Sidney and her husband, Melvin, in Alger Cemetery in Pike/Hume, with full military honors for Melvin and Pastor Mark Weber conducting services for both. Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main Street, Warsaw, NY 14569, has arrangements. Please visit www.weeksfuneral.com to offer condolences, send cards, light a candle, or plant a tree in Sidney's name.
