Shirley Whaley Jenkins, age 87, of South Maple Street, Warsaw, died Saturday, March 05, 2011 at the East Side Nursing Home. She was born in Java Village, May 13th, 1923, the daughter of the late Riley and Bernice Day Whaley. Shirley was a graduate of Arcade High School and Bryant and Stratton Business School. Shirley then worked as Chief Clerk Administrator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 30 plus years retiring in 1969. She was a member of the United Church of Warsaw and a Lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star originally in Java Village and later in Warsaw. Shirley loved cats and loved to travel in her later years, visiting China, Australia and the United States in its entirety. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald S. Jenkins; a sister, Laura Stanley and a brother, Clarence D. Whaley. Survivors include 2 nephews, Bernard R. Whaley of Java Village and Richard D. Stanley of Concord, MA; a niece, Barbara Stewart of Washington State, and several great nephews, great nieces, great great nephews and nieces. Friends of Shirley may call Wednesday, March 9th from 11am to 1pm at the Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main Street, Warsaw. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm with Rev. Charles LePort of the United Church of Warsaw as celebrant. Burial will be private in the Warsaw Cemetery.
