Shirley Ann Hurlburt, age 84, of North Main Street, Gainesville, died peacefully at home, Friday, December 3, 2021 with her beloved family by her side. Shirley was born in Syracuse, September 29, 1937, daughter of the late Everett and Isabelle Ackerman. Lovingly raised by the late Leonard and Doris Cronk Brueser, Shirley was a resident of Gainesville for over sixty years. She worked in the cafeteria of Letchworth Central School and was a longtime member of the Gainesville Methodist Church. Shirley dedicated much of her time to the Silver Springs Food Pantry. She was a terrific cook and loved making lasagna for her family on Christmas Eve. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and was affectionately called 'Grandma' by many Gainesville children. Shirley was a member of the Red Hats and the Gainesville Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her grandson: Darin Pearson, two brothers: Lyle and Pete Ackerman, and three sisters: Winnie Deiter, Rowena Canzoneri and Marjorie Guesno. She is survived by her beloved husband: Clark W. Hurlburt, whom she married on June 18, 1955 at the Gainesville Methodist Church. Additional survivors include her two sons: Dennis (Nancy) Hurlburt of Aurora, Colorado, Dana (Lauren) Hurlburt of Perry, a daughter: Diana (Jeffrey) Haley of Kill Buck, three sisters: Virginia Frazier of Gainesville, Mary Fuss of Arcade, Gloria Gell of Arcade, two brothers: Greg Ackerman of Iowa and Wendell Ackerman of Hunt, five grandchildren: Jennifer, Haley, Kelly, Addison (Ashley), and Evan, a great grandson: Damien Heron and a great great granddaughter: Delilah Heron. A graveside service will be held in Shirley's honor at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Gainesville with Pastor Eric Kelly as celebrant.
