Sherwood G. Steiner, age 89, of North Maple St. passed away Friday, December 22nd, 2017 at the Leo Center for Caring in Rochester. He was born in Akron, June 20th, 1928, son of the late Wilbur and Ida Hartzell Steiner. A resident of Wyoming County since 1950, and 1946 graduate of Akron High School, Sherwood worked as a self employed dairy farmer as the owner of Lynnwood Farm in Orangeville and was a member of the Grange, the Farm Bureau, and the Dairymen's League. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Warsaw and was active with the alumni association for the Akron High School. Sherwood was a lover of music and dancing, a writer of poetry, an avid reader, and a true steward of the land. Sherwood served the Town of Orangeville for over 50 years as assessor, on the zoning and planning boards, and as tax collector. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Lynn Loper whom he married September 30th, 1950 and a great grandson, Hunter Hagaman. Survivors include his daughters, "the 4 J's", Judy (John Tobison) Steiner of Delmar, Janet (William) Heston of Round Hill, VA, Jean Steiner of Pine City, NY and Joan (John) Kircher of Rochester; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends of Sherwood may call from 4pm to 8pm Thursday, December 28th, 2017 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw. A funeral service will be held 10am Friday, December 29th, 2017 at the funeral home with associate Pastor Barbara Mosher of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
