Obituary

Ruby E. Merrill, age 79, of South Main St., Silver Springs passed away Tuesday, April 8th, 2014 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born in Castile, October 18th, 1934, daughter of the late Myrl and Florice Mack Ames. A 1951 graduate of Letchworth Central School and alumni of Houghton College 1954, Ruby worked as a missionary, as a substitute teacher, and library assistant primarily in the Letchworth School District. She was a lifetime resident of Wyoming County and longtime member of the Baptist Church of Perry. Ruby enjoyed teaching piano lessons for over 50 years, crafts, sewing and music. She was a caring and encouraging woman of great faith and grace. Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Alan S. Merrill whom she married June 21st, 1958. Survivors include a son, Mark (Laurie) Merrill of Bliss; 3 daughters, Diane (Rev. Michael) Stephenson of Medina, Kathleen (Kenneth) Golde of Silver Springs, and Lois Peters of Azusa, CA; 2 sisters, Dorothy (Erwin) Tullar of Rushford and Vivian (Eugene) Apple of Columbia, PA; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends of Ruby may call from 2 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm Friday, April 11th, 2014 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw. A celebration of her life will be held 10am Saturday, April 12th at the Baptist Church of Perry. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Silver Springs. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruby's name to the Wyoming Community Hospital Foundation at 400 N. Main St. Warsaw, NY 14569 or SIM USA at www.simusa.org.
