Obituary

Ronald T. Hopkins, age 89, of Capwell Rd., passed away Tuesday, January 28th, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Middlebury, September 18th, 1924, son of the late Howard and Hazel Wilber Hopkins. Ronald was raised in the Upper Hudson Valley, returning to Wyoming County in his late teens. He was a self taught mathematical and mechanical genius, working for himself at Hopkins Machine Works in the Attica area for 50 years. Ronald was a member of Oatka Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee for many years. He also served on several church boards throughout his lifetime. Ronald was very dedicated to his Church, his family and his work. At one point, Ronald made components for NASA. He invented the "pallet nailer" and spent a lifetime working on various approaches to a perpetual motion machine. Ronald was predeceased by a son, Ronald Richard Hopkins; a daughter, Sharon Lomax; a sister, Eunice Hopkins; and 2 brothers, Howard Jr. and John Hopkins. Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Leora Green Hopkins whom he married May 30th, 1945; a son, Larry (Kathie) Hopkins of Warsaw; a daughter, Leora Faith (Bill) Cortright of Wyoming; a brother, Reginald Hopkins of Batavia; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Oatka Baptist Church with date and time to be announced. Burial will take place at the West Middlebury Cemetery.
