Richard L. Slocum, age 75, of Gordon Terrace Warsaw, passed away peacefully, Monday, August 10 ^th 2020 at his son's home in Perry. Dick was born in Warsaw, September 21 ^st 1944 the son of the late Ralph and Dorothy Zeutzius Slocum. Dick graduated from Warsaw Central School in 1962 and went on to join the National Guard, serving from 1965-71. After his military service he worked for the NYS Department of Corrections as a Correction Officer for 33 years beginning in 1972 to 1982 at Attica then Groveland until his retirement in 2005. He enjoyed hunting and all shooting sports but " Dick" or "Dickie" as his friends and family knew him could always be found somewhere along Main Street in Warsaw driving his Camaro or having coffee at Laurie's Restaurant or Silverlake Family Restaurant. He was often seen sporting his trademark red wool crusher hat with a feather in it.

Dick had a lifelong passion for cars and racing. He was particularly fond of American muscle cars – Pontiacs and Chevys. He owned many GTOs, Trans Ams, and Camaros over the course of his life. For 50 years Dick attended the races at Watkins Glen and he enjoyed camping there as well. His passion for fast cars lives on with his son and grandson.

Dick was the ultimate storyteller with so many friends and acquaintances around Warsaw. His social activities meant everything to him and he was a true friend for life.

Dick is survived by his son; Matthew (Holly) Slocum of Perry, a daughter Rachael Slocum of Greece, NY, two sisters; Carol Smith of Perry, and Joanne (David) Feeney of Spencerport, a granddaughter; Allie and a grandson; Gavin both of Perry.

A celebration befitting of Dick's life will be held at the American Legion Hall in the Warsaw Village Park on Friday August 28 ^th from 12pm to 8pm. Please bring your favorite classic car if you can, because Dick would love it if it turns into a car show and a parade.
