Richard J. Higgins, age 82, of Grand Ave. Syracuse passed away, Friday June 24, 2022 at the VanDuyn Home in Syracuse. Richard was born in Attica, NY a son of the late Lloyd Sr. and Esther Kolwitz Higgins. After graduating from Attica High School, Rich began his educational journey at Brockport and Washington Universities earning his Master's in Social Work. Rich worked at the United Church Children's Center in St. Louis and later Hutching's Psychiatric Center in Syracuse from where he retired in 1991. Rich was a foster parent to many children and enjoyed involvement with the Julie Crawford Band. After retirement, he owned and operated the White Rose in Syracuse and The Book Barn in Rome, both bookstores
Richard was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Lloyd Jr., David, Ray, and Jim Higgins.

Survivors include his sister, Marilyn Wilson of Attica, nieces, Deb Bender, Sandi (Tom) Reynolds, and Sue (Darrell) Wilson, nephews, Mike (Sharon) Wilson, Dan Wilson, Don (Kathie) Wilson, John (Gabbey) Higgins and numerous close friends.

Friends may call on Wednesday June 29, 2022 from 5-7pm at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw. Funeral services will begin at 7pm following the calling with Rev. Lauran Heidenreich as officiant. Please visit www.weeksfuneral.com to offer condolences. Burial will be held privately in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica.
