Richard Paul Engel, age 75 of Wilcox Lane, Canandaigua, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Rich was born in Wayland, New York, June 13, 1949 a son of the late Raymond and Anna Spears Engel. Rich attended Naples High School before joining the United States Army from which he was retired and Honorably Discharged. He truly enjoyed helping and conversing with others, even volunteering at the local VA. Rich liked the outdoors where he hunted and fished with friends and family always cherishing their Thanksgiving Day hunt. Rich was dedicated to the Lord and loved being in church to which he would go most every day. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's in Canandaigua and more recently St. Dominic's in Shortsville. Rich also enjoyed watching the Bills and Yankees with his brother to which he was very close.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 23 years, Rita Mix Engel, and a brother, Leslie Engel.
Survivors include his son, Mike Wolfanger of Central Square, a brother, Art Engel of Canandaigua, three grandchildren, Dillon, Tyler, and Madison as well as two nephews.
Friends of Richard Engel may call on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw, NY 14569 from 12pm to 2pm. Funeral services will follow the calling with Father James Jaeger the VA Chaplain and good friend of Rich's family, as celebrant. Services will be followed by full military honors at the funeral home. Burial will be private in the Rose Ridge Cemetery in Naples.
