Richard K. Blankenship, age 85, of Perry, New York, passed away at home, Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Dick was born at home in Hume, New York, a son of the late Herman Baxter and Dorothy Hall Blankenship. He graduated from Nunda High School and went on to join the United States Army serving Honorably from 1961 until his retirement from the Army National Guard in 1993 earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. Dick served in Panama, Germany, Korea and California. Upon returning from active duty, Dick worked for the Rochester Carpenter's Union Local #85 for 30 years mainly as a Project Superintendent for Wilmorite Corp. in Rochester and later for Whiting and Turner in Baltimore before retiring. Dick was a lifetime resident of Perry and a longtime member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Warsaw. He was proud of his military service and was an active member of Walter Klein Post #532 in Warsaw, the Wyoming County Joint Veterans Council, the Warsaw Chapter of the 40/8, and a Past Commander of Wyoming County American Legion. Dick adored his beloved Rottweiler, "Mugzy". Dick was good with his hands, often tinkering with his snowmobiles, lawnmower or his motorcycles which he was so fond of taking on his annual training trips to Fort Drum. He enjoyed time with friends and family and was an avid deer and bird hunter.

Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, Martin and Kenneth Blankenship, sisters, Lois Smith, Rita Barrows, and Mildred Schlueter.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Donna Billings Blankenship, his daughters, Bonnita (James) Matson of Perry, Beonna (Darryl) Hunt of Fairport, a son, Bruce Blankenship of Perry, a sister, Joyce (Gary) Heiland of Colorado, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Friends of Richard K. Blankenship may call at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw, NY 14569 on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 from 10am to 1pm at which time an American Legion Veterans Service will be conducted. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in Perry with full military honors. Memorial contributions are requested to the Wyoming County Joint Veterans Council at 36 Center Street Suite B-2 Warsaw, NY 14569.
