Richard W. Bannister, age 89, of Toolhouse Road, Warsaw, died Monday, November 15, 2010 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in Farmersville, NY, March 26th, 1921, the son of the late Frank and Grace Brown Bannister. A lifetime resident of Wyoming County, Richard worked as a dairy farmer; later owning and operating Dick's Dozer Service in Warsaw and Bannister Trucking in Franklinville from where he retired in 1981. He was a gentle, supportive and giving man who loved his family and dogs as well as traveling and racing stock cars in Perry. Richard enjoyed tinkering and was a very mechanical person. He was a former member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge #560 and served his country during World War II with the United States Army. Richard is survived by his former wife, Florence Bannister; 3 daughters, Judy Bannister of Tarpon Springs, FL, Susan (Frank) Cummins of Franklinville, and Kathy Bell of Warsaw; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by 6 sisters, 5 brothers, and his faithful dog Shadow who passed away in an unfortunate accident the same day Richard did. A funeral service will be held for Richard 11am, Friday, November 19th, 2010 at the Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main Street, Warsaw with Pastor William Lowery as celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date in the Warsaw Cemetery.
