Philip A. Schillaci, age 93, of Batten Road Silver Springs, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, December 23rd 2012 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. Phil was born in Rock Glen, March 9th 1919 the son of the late Salvatore and Jennie Cuzzo Schillaci. He was 1940 graduate of Warsaw High School and worked the B&O Railroad, drove truck for Borden, owned and operated with his brother; Skill Bros. Texaco in Rock Glen and a school bus service for a time. Phil retired in 1974 from the NYS DOT where he was a foreman. He started the first Boy Scout Troop in Rock Glen and was a member of Warsaw's Moose Lodge #560. Phil served in the United States Army during WWII with the 1289th Combat Engineers attached to the 8th Army. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and built bridges across the Rhine River. He later was transferred to the Pacific Theatre where he stayed until the war's end. Most people know Phil for his dedicated involvement in all of the local Veterans Organizations. He was instrumental in the land and building purchase for the original Wyoming County Vet's Club of which he was a longtime member, a 12 year past commander of the DAV chapter # 166 in Batavia, and volunteer for the Batavia VA, longtime member of Post #532 Walter Klein American Legion and past Commander of Warsaw's Memorial Post #4823 of the VFW, and a longtime member of Voiture #761 of the 40 & 8. Phil was very giving of himself and his time as was evident in the organizations with which he belonged. He was a hard worker who always told you like it was without any sugar coating. Phil was preceded in death by his loving wife; Ruth Isabelle Mathews, 3 brothers; Michael and Alphonso Schillaci and Joseph Skill, 2 sisters; Clara Schillaci and Anna Gardyjan. Survivors include 2 sons; Jeff (Debbie Ellis) Schillaci of Silver Springs, Phillip Schillaci Jr. of Wyoming, a brother Sam (Judy) Schillaci of Rock Glen, 2 sisters; Dorothy Sorge of Lancaster, and Jennie Miceli of Warsaw, 6 grand and 5 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends of Philip A. Schillaci may call at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw on Wednesday, December 26th from 7-9pm. A 7pm vigil service will be conducted by Father Richard Blazejewski of St. Mary's Church in Silver Springs. Additional calling will follow on Thursday, Dec. 27th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A veteran's service will be conducted at 6:45pm on Thursday the 27th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am on Friday the 28th at St. Mary's in Silver Springs. Burial will follow with full military honors in St. Michael's Cemetery Warsaw.
