Marie B. Burlingame, age 91, of DeLand, FL. and formerly of Warsaw, died Saturday, March 05, 2011 at her home. She was born in Whitney Point, NY, June 15th, 1919, the daughter of the late Herbert L. and Nina B. Hopkins White. A graduate of Whitney Point Central School, Marie married Dr. Stuart Gay with whom she lived in Monticello, N.Y. for over 30 years while Stuart worked as a teacher and Superintendent of Schools there. Marie and Stuart moved back to Warsaw after Stuart retired where they lived on their farm on Old Buffalo Rd. until Stuart's passing in 1978. Marie married the Rev. Harold Burlingame who served as Pastor of the Bliss Baptist Church from 1948 to 1980. The Burlingame's enjoyed painting, especially scenes from the Wyoming County area. They displayed their works for several years at the Wyoming County Fair and the Gates House in Warsaw. Marie was a former member of the Bliss Baptist Church, the Southside Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church, both of DeLand, FL, the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 6 of Deland, FL., and the Warsaw Historical Society where both she and Dr. Gay had served as president. She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Stuart Gay and her second husband, Rev. Harold Burlingame. Survivors include 2 cousins, Beverly Weeks of Binghamton, NY and Edith Smith of Whitney Point, NY. Friends of Marie may call Thursday, March 10th from 7 to 9 pm at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street, Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Friday, March 11th at 11:00 am with Rev. Richard Reed of Bliss Baptist Church as celebrant. Burial will follow privately in Warsaw Cemetery.
