M. Rita Coveny, age 93, of South Maple St., Warsaw passed away Wednesday, July 30th, 2014 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born in East Bethany, September 8th, 1920, daughter of the late Edward J. and Margaret Lacey Boyle. A resident of Wyoming County since 1954 and previously of Buffalo, Rita graduated from Caledonia High School and the State University of Geneseo Teacher's College. She taught kindergarten at St. Michaels School in Warsaw from 1964 to 1980 and retired as Principal. After retirement, Rita and her husband sold real estate for Mack Realty in Caledonia. She was a member of St. Michaels Church where she was part of the Altar and Rosary Society. Rita's priority was always her family, evident by her raising of 11 children. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerald Joseph Coveny in 1989; 2 sons, David Paul Coveny and Charles Edward Coveny; 3 sisters, Eleanor Steinwachs, Monica Fisher, and Sister Marguerita, SSJ; 2 brothers, Edward and Charles Boyle and 2 brothers-in-law, Francis Henault and Ralph Steinwachs. Survivors include 6 sons, Gerald (Janet) Coveny of Warsaw, Michael (Ramona) Coveny of Rocky Montain, Virgina, Daniel Coveny of Warsaw, Martin Coveny of Warsaw, Joseph (Robyn Trynoski) Coveny of Warsaw, and Raymond (Tammy) Coveny of Castile; 3 daughters, Margaret Ess of Warsaw, Kathleen (Kenneth) Burzynski of Warsaw, and Maria Seifert of Knoxville, Tennessee; a sister, Mildred Henault of Orchard Park; 2 brothers-in-law, Harold Fisher of Caledonia and John Coveny of Buffalo; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Katherine Hoffman of East Aurora and Jeanette Coveny of Winterville, Georgia; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends of Rita may call from 4pm to 8pm, Sunday, August 3rd, 2014 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw where a vigil service will be held at 4pm with Deacon John Kelly of St. Michaels Church of Warsaw. A mass of Christian burial will be held 11am, Monday, August 4th at St. Michaels Church of Warsaw. Burial will follow in the St. Michaels Cemetery.
