Lettie M. Yates, age 94, of Liberty Street Castile, passed away peacefully, Tuesday May 10, 2022 at her daughter's home in Churchville where she was lovingly cared for. Lettie was born in Centerville, August 2, 1927 a daughter of the late Leslie and Nina Ackerman Washburn. A 1945 graduate of Castile High School and lifetime resident, Lettie worked at the Castile Red and White as a clerk and later leased and managed Al's Pizza from 1987 to 1992. She was dedicated to her church, The Castile United Church of Christ. She was truly artistic and loved to draw cartoons. Lettie was also a terrific woodcarver, enjoying flower gardening and also ceramics arts. She worked alongside her husband as he created beautiful furniture. Lettie did all of the sanding and finishing herself.

She was preceded by her beloved husband, Gordon L. Yates in 1986, a sister, Edith Mix, a granddaughter, Lisa Wood, and two brothers, Llewellyn and Mark Washburn and a granddaughter in-law, Sharon Pombert.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy (Harry) Wood of Churchville, a sister, Carol Bigelow of Castile, four grandchildren, Frank (Sandra Moore) Pombert of Albion, Michelle (Randy) Boice of Manassas, VA, Kathleen (Nathan) Montana of Rochester, Todd Wood of Rochester, a sister in-law, Isabelle Patanella of Henrietta, 9 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends of Lettie Yates may call on Friday May 13, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw, NY 14569. Please visit www.weeksfuneral.com to offer condolences. Funeral services will be held at 11am at the Castile United Church of Christ on Saturday May 14, 2022 with Pastor Tammy Lathan as officiant. Burial will follow in the Grace Cemetery in Castile. Memorial contribution may be made in Lettie's name to the church at 4 Washington Street Castile, NY 14427 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
