Leon R. Cox age 71, of Conable Way, Warsaw and previously Wyoming, New York passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023 at Buffalo General Hospital. Leon was born in Warsaw, July 14, 1952 a son of the late Russell P. and Zora "Zoie" L. Luce Cox. Leon graduated from Wyoming Central School in 1970 and went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University in 1974. Leon was a lifetime resident of Wyoming, NY however he spent time in California and York, New York. He held various jobs throughout his life and more recently worked as a Project Manager for a wind company in Wayland. Leon was dedicated to his church family and was a longtime member of the Warsaw Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was athletic, enjoyed running, and reading. Leon was very proud of and loved his red 1948 Ford pickup that he fixed and drove home from California. He was a persistent fighter trying to make his way in the world despite what life threw at him.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Carla J. Cox of New Bern, NC, a son, Samuel (Daniele) Cox of San Jose, CA, a daughter, Julia Cox of Arlington, VA, 3 grandchildren, Noah, Owen and Koda Cox, 2 sisters, Ellen Cox of Studio City, CA, Susan (Peter Goodrich) Cox of Brentwood, NH, 2 brothers, Leslie (Elaine) Cox of Belchertown, MA, Neal (Holly) Cox of Wyoming, an aunt, Norma Luce of Oneida, NY, an uncle, Ray Luce of Johnsonburg, NY as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 4-6pm at The Warsaw Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 286 Linwood Ave. Warsaw, NY 14569. Funeral services will follow the calling and begin at 6pm at the church, led by President David Roberts. Burial will follow on Saturday privately for the family in the Wyoming Cemetery where he was a longtime, dedicated member of the cemetery board. Weeks Funeral Home 123 N.
