Karl L. Grohs, age 93, of Christ Road, Warsaw passed away, Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital after a brief illness. Karl was born in Warsaw October 1, 1930 a son of the late Fred K. and Iva E. Condit Grohs. A lifetime resident of Warsaw and 1949 graduate of Warsaw Central School, Karl went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1952. Karl then joined the United States Air Force, serving honorably as an Automated Tracking Radar Repairman with the rank of T-Sgt. Karl served during Korea in Germany and the States before returning in 1956 to marry the love of his life and to begin a family.
Karl was a hard worker and dedicated family man. He had a terrific sense of humor and found enjoyment teasing his family. Ask him how he was doing and he'd say, " Mean, miserable, ugly and grouchy". Karl worked from 1964-1991 at Eaton which was the former Yale and Towne in Batavia as a Test Engineer and later as a electrical engineer. Karl served his community as a Wyoming County Building Inspector from 1990 to 2000 and the Town of Warsaw Planning Board for 40 years. He was a longtime member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Warsaw and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and assembling Jig Saw puzzles. Karl loved Swing Music and ran the mixer board for the band "Full Swing".
Karl is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Gloria A. Jackson Grohs whom he married on November 17, 1956. Also surviving are three daughters, Anne (David) Rowlands of Honeoye Falls, Debbie (Randy) Cardon of Mendon, Laurie (Donald) McKeown of Warsaw, a son, Karl D. (Michelle) Grohs of Warsaw, a sister, Dorothy Youngers of Warsaw eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends of Karl L. Grohs may call on Sunday February 18th from 3-5pm at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw, NY 14569. Funeral services will be held at the 1st United Methodist Church 11am Monday February 19th with Reverend Lauren Turner as officiant. Burial will follow with full military honors in the Quaker Settlement Cemetery in Warsaw. Memorial contributions are requested to the 1st United Methodist Church at 6 West Court Street Warsaw, NY 14569.
