Joseph W. Daniel, age 96, of Rt. 20A, passed away Friday, August 31 ^st , 2018, at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born in Sheldon, May 20 ^th , 1922, son of the late August and Bertha Leonard Daniel. A lifetime resident of Wyoming County, Joe was a self employed dairy farmer from 1946 to 1972 from where he retired. He was also Highway Superintendent for the Town of Orangeville for 13 years. Joe was a member of St. Michael's Church; lifetime member of Warsaw's Memorial VFW Post 4823; lifetime member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge 560; member of both the New York State and Wyoming County Highway/Town Superintendent's Associations; and past president of the Varysburg Lions Club. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, surviving the Battle of the Bulge. Joe was a hard working, very generous family man who was strong in his faith and was a straight shooter. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Charles, Francis, and August Daniel; and 2 sisters, Mary Elizabeth Daniel and Rose Merle. Survivors include his loving wife Cecelia Stoffer Daniel of Warsaw; 2 sons, James (Kathleen) Daniel of Warsaw and Terry (Mary) Daniel of Warsaw; a daughter, Barbara (Henry) Barrett of Holley; 2 brothers, Edward (Alice) Daniel of Marilla and Richard (Theresa) Daniel of Greece; a sister, Elizabeth (Paul) George of Wales; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends of Joe may call from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm Tuesday, September 4 ^th , 2018 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw where a vigil service will be held at 6:30pm, followed by the VFW. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00am Wednesday, September 5 ^th , 2018 at St. Michael's Church. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe's name to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
