Obituary

John J. Pokorny, age 68, of South Main St., Batavia, passed away Monday, February 1st, 2016 at the Buffalo Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Cooperstown, NY, January 2nd, 1948, son of the late Joseph F. and Vera A. Stocking Pokorny. A lifetime resident of Genesee County and a 1966 graduate of Pavilion High School, John worked as a warehouse bagger at the Oatka Milk Plant in Batavia for 30 years from where he retired in 2013. He attended Assembly Church of God in Batavia and was strong in his faith and his love for the Lord Jesus Christ. John was a hardworking man and was dedicated to his family. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy from where he retired as well as the United States Air Force Reserves. Survivors include 2 sisters, Carol Ann (Robert) Graf of Arlington, TX and Gail Walsh of Greencastle, PA; 2 brothers, Frederick (Nancy) Avard of South Hadley, MA and Theodore Avard of Utica, NY; and several Nieces and Nephews. A graveside service will be held 10am Friday, February 5th, 2016 in the LaGrange Cemetery with Pastor Dan Case of the LaGrange Baptist Church and Pastor Dan Schmidt of Assembly Church of God, Batavia officiating.
