ohn Donnelly, age 96, of School Street, Varysburg, where he resided since 1949, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 20th 2024 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. He was born in Buffalo a son of the late Raymond E. and Bernice Neyerlin Donnelly. John attended Attica Central School and quit early to join the Navy and serve honorably in WWII from 1944 to 1946. Upon returning from the war, He worked at various locations before taking a job with the New York State Department of Transportation in Warsaw where he retired in 1987 as a Foreman / Maintenance Supervisor after 34 years. John was a longtime member of St. Joseph's in Varysburg and a very hard working man. He enjoyed his daily drives on the old country back roads around Wyoming County. John was a Yankee's, Bill's and Lawrence Welk fan. He served his community in the Varysburg Fire Department for 26 years earning his Exempt Status in 1972.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Beverly Barnes whom he married on November 16, 1947, his brother, James and a sister, Mary Lee Merrill.

Survivors include his son, Edward (Paula) Donnelly of Attica, a daughter, Kathy Petre of Varysburg, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church in Varysburg, 10am Tuesday, August 27, 2024 with Father John Arygosami as Celebrant.
