Jeannette A. Whitney, age 89, of Wyoming Street Warsaw, passed away Monday, June 23rd at the East Side Nursing and Rehab Center in Warsaw.
Jeannette was born, August 10th1918, the daughter of the late Edward H. Anderson and Grace Scudder Owen. She was a resident of Warsaw since 1950. Jeannette was a strong and independent woman who cared deeply for her family and friends as they looked to her for strength and guidance. She began her education as a graduate from Canton PA in 1934, and went on to Mansfield State College PA in 1939, Syracuse University in 1940 where she earned her BA in Science and education. She was employed by the Housatonic Valley Regional HS from 1940-45, Groveland HS from 1945-46, Warsaw Central School Librarian from 1952-63, Housatonic Valley Regional HS 1963-64, Emma Willard School in Troy, 1964-67, Warsaw Central 1967-68 and Greece Central Schools from 1968-75 where she retired from in 1975 She was a member of the United Church in Warsaw and Mary Jemison Chapter of OES #417 in Mt. Morris. She belonged to the Warsaw Monday Club, the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, NYS Retired Teachers Assoc, Warsaw Garden Study Club, and the Federation of Women's Clubs both regional and state levels.
She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband Benjamin C. Whitney in 1952, a brother Edward O. Anderson and a sister, Grace Slusser.
She is survived by her daughter; Nancy Taylor of Ft. Collins, Colorado, a brother Stewart (Pat) Anderson of Groveland, NY, sister in-law Doris Whitney of Groveland, 2 grandsons, a great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 10th 2008 at 2pm in the Miller Memorial Chapel at the United Church in Warsaw with Reverend Kim Cran as celebrant. Weeks Funeral Home 123 N.
