Jean Ewell, age 94 of Pavilion Warsaw Road "Pearl Creek" passed away, peacefully at home, Tuesday, February 16 th 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born in Warsaw June 11 th 1926 a daughter of the late Walter and Nellie Minor Fisher. Jean was a 1943 graduate of Wyoming Central School. During WWII she worked for the rationing board. Jean went on to become a rural route carrier and later Postmaster of Wyoming for 20 years before her retirement in 1991. A longtime member of the former Wyoming Presbyterian Church for over 70 years, Jean enjoyed taking long rides to see the countryside and annual camping trips to the Adirondack region. She was a terrific cook and was known for her "Chicken Divan and Spaghetti". She also enjoyed baking and sewing. She was part of the old generation of hard working farm wives. Jean was very dedicated to her church, family and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; John Ewell, her son; Dean "Rip" Ewell, a sister; Margaret McKenzie, and brothers; Herbert, Dean, Pat and Edwin Fisher.
Survivors include her 4 sons; Judd (Janet) Ewell of Warsaw, Mac (Carla) Ewell of Elba, Seth (Marcy) Ewell of Wyoming, Wade (Laurie) Ewell of East Bethany, seven grandchildren; Elizabeth (Fred) Turner, East Syracuse, Amanda and Victoria DiStefano of Batavia, Colin Ewell of Canandaigua, Oliver, and Hayden Ewell of Wyoming, Zeke Ewell of Penn Yan, several great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Jean's family would like to thank and remember her caretaker and surrogate daughter Mitzi Yauchzee of Wyoming.
A memorial service will be held at 11am, Saturday, July 17th 2021 at the former Wyoming Presbyterian Church and burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the old family Homestead following interment. Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw, NY 14569 has arrangements.
