James B. Hurlburt, of Punta Gorda, Florida and formerly Bliss, New York, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on August 9th 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 6, 1952 in Warsaw, New York, Jim was the beloved son of the late Jay and Mary (George) Hurlburt.
Jim graduated from Letchworth Central School in 1970 setting the stage for a life characterized by dedication, kindness, and community spirit. He spent 35 years working for UPS, where he was renowned for his excellent driving record and unwavering commitment to his work.
In August of 1981, Jim married Vicki (Ankrom). Together they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising two sons, Shawn and Chris, who were the center of his world. Jim was not just a rock for his family but a mountain, sharing his wisdom and knowledge with everyone around him. He was always willing to lend a hand to his sons, neighbors, or anyone in need.
Jim's generous spirit extended beyond his family. As a dedicated coach for his sons' baseball teams, he often worked through his lunch breaks to ensure he never missed a practice or game. Known affectionately as Coach Jim, he left a lasting impact on all the young athletes he guided. He taught them not only the game, but also the values of kindness and perseverance.
Jim is survived by his wife Vicki along with his sons Shawn and Chris of Punta Gorda; his siblings, Donald (Sheila) Hurlburt, Debra (the late Larry) Cartwright, Janien (the late Dale) Carlin, Wayne (Marsha) Hurlburt, and Mike (Mary) Hall. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his brother Richard Hurlburt.
Jim found joy in crafting clocks, riding his motorcycle, and traveling to new places. These hobbies reflected his appreciation for the intricacies of time, the thrill of the journey, and the beauty of the world.
In honor of Jim's generous spirit and his love of community, donations in his memory may be made to the local charity of your choice. James Hulburt will be remembered as a kind, gentle man who touched many lives and he will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on September 6, 2026 at the Breezeway Barn in Perry from 12-3pm. Burial be be private in the Lyonsburg Cemetery in Bliss.
