Obituary

James C. Dourie, age 92, of Prospect Street Warsaw and formerly a lifelong Wyoming resident passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at the East Side Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw. Jim was born in Pavilion, June 9, 1930, a son of the late Charles and Rose Morong Dourie. After graduating from Pavilion Central School in 1948, Jim joined the United States Army serving honorably from 1951 to 1953, in the Korean War as a Corporal in Communications. Upon returning home he earned a business degree from Rochester Business Institute. Jim put his knowledge to work owning and operating the family business in Wyoming, Dourie's IGA which became Dourie's Marketplace / Shopwise. The business continued in operation for 60 years. Jim married his bride of 53 years Barbara E. Pettnot Dourie on July 12, 1969 and they continued their journey together raising a family and supporting their local community. Jim was a longtime member and usher at St. Michael's Church in Warsaw. He enjoyed hunting and traveling for business, and with the family. He liked to bowl in what spare time he had and was a longtime member of Botts-Fiorito American Legion Post #576 in LeRoy. Jim will always be remembered as a kind and generous soul. Many families in the community benefited from that kindness.

Jim was preceded in death by his sister and brother in-law "Best Friend", Josephine (Paul) Hansen and a brother Charles Dourie.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara of Wyoming, two sons, Joseph James (Michelle) Dourie of Warsaw, John Charles Dourie of Wyoming, two granddaughters, Alana and Mariah Dourie both of Warsaw, a niece, Gloria (Stephen) Cook of Baldwinsville, two great nephews, Jonathan (Kearston) Cook of Florida, Andrew (Melissa) Cook of South Carolina, a nephew, Richard (Brenda) Hansen of North Carolina. Friends may call on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 3-6pm at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw, NY 14569. Please visit www.weeksfuneral.com to offer condolences. A Vigil service will be held at 5:45 on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, December 2, 2022 at St. Michael's Church in Warsaw with Father Denning Achidi. Burial will follow the Mass in St. Michael's Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions are requested to the Wyoming Hook and Ladder at PO Box 36 Wyoming, NY 14591, the Sunshine Fund at East Side Nursing and Rehab at 62 Prospect Street Warsaw, NY 14569 or to any Veterans organization of the donor's choice.
