James C. Bender Jr., age 67, of Water St., passed away Thursday, June 9th, 2016 at the Buffalo General Medical Center. He was born in Batavia, October 2nd, 1948, son of the late James C. and Kathleen H. Lyons Bender. A lifetime resident of Wyoming County and 1968 graduate of Attica High School, James worked as a Health and Safety Director for Delphi Engineering for 30 years from where he retired in 2006. He served his country honorably in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam Era from 1968 to 1970. James was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Attica and a member of the Harder-O'Donnell Post #734 of the American Legion. He was a dedicated husband who even after 38 years, was still deeply in love with his wife Deb. James was the "rock of the family", who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and will be deeply missed by all who shared his life. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, George G. Wilson Junior. Survivors include his loving wife of 38 years, Deborah J. Wilson Bender, whom he married May 27th, 1978; 2 sons, Stephen (Shelly) Bender of Jacksonville, NC and James (Nicole Adymy) Bender of Cheektowaga; a daughter, Kimberly (Richard) Bartz of Bennington; a sister, Sandra (Michael) Sinclair of Attica; 3 grandchildren, Alyssa, Josh, and Katie Bender; and several nieces and nephews. Friends of James may call from 2pm to 6pm Sunday, June 12th, 2016 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw. A celebration of life will be held 1pm Thursday, July 7th, 2016 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Attica with Reverend Lauran Heidenreich officiating.
