Irene M. Laird Dewey, age 95, of North Main St., Warsaw, passed away Sunday, November 3rd, 2013 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born in Perry, February 21st, 1918, daughter of the late George and Abigail Billings Sweet. A resident of Genesee and Wyoming Counties, Irene worked as a housekeeper in Wyoming County, as a Nurse's Aide in Genesee and Wyoming Counties, and at Mallory Timers in Warsaw. She attended the Church of God in Arcade and was known as an independent and strong woman. Irene was an avid dog lover and was very dedicated to her family. She was predeceased by her husbands, Robert C. Laird Sr. on April 21st, 1971 and Harold E. Dewey on April 17th, 1984; 2 sons, Robert Laird Jr. and Carl Laird; 3 sisters, Avis Farewell and Mabel Barber and baby Gladys Sweet; a brother, Elmer Sweet; and 2 grandchildren, Sherry and Carl Laird Jr. Survivors include a son, Roger (Patricia) Laird of Batavia; a daughter, Colleen Laird-Gonzales of Gainesville; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends of Irene may call from 11am to 12pm, Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St. Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home following the calling hours with Mary Fuss as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Varysburg Cemetery, Varysburg.
