Hollis L. "Lee" Carpenter, age 91, of Highland Ave. passed away Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Slate Mills, VA, October 4th, 1925, son of the late Hollis and Mary Peyton Carpenter. A lifetime resident of Wyoming County, and recipient of his diploma from Warsaw High School during a special ceremony in 2002, Lee worked as a self employed auto upholsterer with Lees Auto Upholstery which he founded in 1952. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Rock Glen congregation. Lee loved music, the Buffalo Bills, the New York Yankees, hunting, fishing, cars, and especially his family. He was a very personable man who was a friend to many generations and enjoyed his afternoon coffee breaks. Lee was the originator of the Omar Lighting Fund which placed the lights in the Warsaw Village Park beginning in 1978. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Lee was predeceased by his wife, Lulu Blanche Duschen in December of 1995; a son, Kenneth Lee "Omar" Carpenter; a brother, Harry Carpenter; 3 sisters, Hazel Nicholson, Ruth Lahey, and Ann White; and a grandson-in-law, Christopher Bookmiller. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Lou (Steven) Wilkinson of Warsaw; a son, Jeff (Maureen) Carpenter of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Jim (Barb) Carpenter of Corfu; 2 grandsons, Michael (Wendy) Skidmore of Warsaw and Jacob Lee Carpenter of Phoenix, AZ; a grand daughter, Cheryl (Merlin) Bookmiller of Castile; great grandchildren, Lee, Zeke, Cameron, Shara and Jaden; many nieces and nephews; and his longtime loving companion, Sandy Chandler of Alden. A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 6pm Saturday, October 21st, 2017 at the American Legion Hall in the Warsaw Village Park. Burial will take place privately in the Warsaw Cemetery.
