Obituary

Gila M. VanValkenburg, age 74 of Walnut Street Perry, passed away Friday, July 30 th 2021 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. Gila was born in Warsaw, March 6 th 1947, the daughter of the late Harold S. and Gladys L. Taylor Mosier. Gila was a 1965 graduate of Warsaw Central School and went on to earn her cosmetology license from Doyle Beauty School in Buffalo. She worked as a hair dresser and later as a teaching assistant at Perry Central School until retiring in 1993. Gila attended Warsaw's Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church. Gila owned operated her own baking business for many years which grew out of her love of putting smiles on others faces. She showed her artistic flair while she enjoyed making ceramics and painting. Gila made an impression on the lives of many young girls, serving as a girl scout leader for several years. She dedicated much of her time in the Summers of 1987 through 1992 cooking at camp Asbury at Silver Lake.

Gila was preceded by her son; Erik VanValkenburg.

Survivors include her son; Roger VanValkenburg Jr. and a daughter; Kendra Pfeiffer both of Perry, her former husband and father of her children; Roger VanValkenburg Sr. of Virginia, four grandchildren; Tyler and Austin VanValkenburg, Kera Pfeiffer and Samantha Trites.

A time of sharing and memorial calling will be held on Thursday, August 12 th 2021 from 4-7pm at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw. Burial will take place at a later date in the West Middlebury Cemetery. Please visit www.weeksfuneral.com to offer condolences.
