Emil Schell Jr., age 90, of Broughton Rd., passed away Monday, January 8th, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Buffalo, October 27th, 1927, son of the late Emil and Helen Flick Schell. A resident of Savannah, GA for 20 years, returning to Wyoming County in 2015, and graduate of Genesee Community College, Emil worked as an officer with the Warsaw Police Department for 2 years where he was known as "Mr. Warsaw" and then for 10 years with the Wyoming County Sheriffs Department. After leaving the police department, Emil owned and operated Schell Janitorial in Wethersfield and Bath for many years. He was a member of Lodge #549 of Free and Accepted Masons in Warsaw, the Warsaw Veterans Club, the American Legion Post #184 in Savannah, GA, and the VFW post #4823 in Warsaw. Emil served his country honorably first with the United States Navy for 4 years during World War II, then with the United States Marines during Korea, serving as a drill and tank instructor, retiring on February, 14th, 1965 while working in the Criminal Investigation Division. During his time in the service, Emil was awarded 2 Purple Hearts. Emil was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Rae Swah Schell in 2002; a brother, Henry Schell; and a sister, Mary Buchwald. Survivors include 4 nephews, Robert (Karen) Schell of Silver Springs, Henry (Diane) Schell of Silver Springs, Alvin (Joan) Buchwald Jr. of Pike, and Paul (Marge) Buchwald of Wethersfield; 5 nieces, Carol Green of Perry, Betty Bailey of Silver Springs, Beverly (Donald) Hogate of Franklinville, and Joan Allen of Florida, and Barb (Dick) Dumbleton of Perry Center; and many other great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11am Saturday, May 5th, 2018 in the Union Park Cemetery, Wethersfield, with full military honors.
