Douglas L. Rhodes, age 81, of Summit Avenue, Warsaw passed away peacefully, at home, Friday, November 24, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born in Washington, D.C., April 2, 1942, a son of the late Cecil and Dorothy Fogelsanger Rhodes. He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1960 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving 4 years honorably and earning the rank of Corporal, until 1964. At that time, he met his beloved future wife and they started a life and family together. Doug was an exceptionally hard working man who would do anything to support his family. He worked 25 years for the New York State Department of Corrections as an officer in both Attica and Groveland. Doug resided in Warsaw since 2012 and previously 42 years in North Java. He was a member of the Family Life Church in Warsaw and enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, and hunting. Doug even played baseball in his younger days and remained a dedicated sports fan to include the Bills, Sabres, and the Rays.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Norma J. Woolley Rhodes, 2 daughters, Kathryn Rhodes of South Carolina, Karen (Jon) Cox of Tennessee, a son, Daniel (Melanie) Rhodes of Warsaw, 2 brothers, Gary Rhodes of Massachusetts and Michael (Josephine) Rhodes of Perry, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends of Douglas Rhodes may call at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 3-5pm. Funeral services will immediately follow the calling at 5pm with Pastor Chris Lonneville as officiant. Military honors will take place at the funeral home at the conclusion of the service. Burial will take place at a later date privately in the Warsaw Cemetery.
