Obituary

Dorothy Marie Putney of South Plymouth Ave, Rochester, died Monday, December 21, 2009 at the East Side Nursing Facility in Warsaw, NY. She was born on July 31st, 1912, the daughter of the late William and Helen Logan Putney. After the death of her mother in Buffalo in 1918, Dorothy moved to the Pavilion area where she lived with various relatives. She spent her later childhood in Scottsville, NY with her aunt and uncle, graduating from Scottsville High School in 1930. She proceeded to the University Of Rochester School Of Nursing at Strong Memorial Hospital where she obtained her Nursing Degree in 1933. After spending several years working in various hospitals, Dorothy entered the Franciscan Order at the St. Francis Convent in Joliet, IL as Sister Mary Rosita while continuing her nursing career in their hospitals. In 1954, she returned to the secular life where she worked as a private duty nurse in Rochester until her retirement. In her free time, Dorothy enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cross stitch as well as traveling and going out to dinner with loved ones. Dorothy is predeceased by her 2 sisters, Marjorie Moag and Florence Stenson and 1 brother, Donald Putney. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. There are no prior calling hours and a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery in Warsaw, NY. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church in Pavilion, NY.
