Donald L. Kemp, age 65, of South Main St., Silver Springs, passed away suddenly Sunday, August 12th, 2012 at his own home. He was born July 13th, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Carrie Brown Schamberger. A resident of Silver Springs since 2000, and previously of Gaithersburg, MD for 20 years, Donald graduated Suma Kum Laude with a BA in Hospital Administration from Ithaca College followed by a MA in Logisitics from the United States Air Force Institute of Technology. Donald retired as a Hospital Administrator with the United States Air Force and over 40 years of governmental service, then moving on to run and own A Little Bit of Heaven Bed and Breakfast in Silver Springs. He attended the United Methodist Church of Silver Springs and was a member of the Bates-Courtney American Legion Post #105 of Castile and of Oakland Lodge #379 of Free and Accepted Masons. Donald served his country honorably with the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Major after an enlistment from 1966 to 1973 then a commission from 1973 to 1984. He enjoyed reading and exercising and was very dedicated to his family and the preservation of the American Chestnut. Donald was predeceased by 2 sisters, Peggy Woodruff and Maryanne Streamer. Survivors include a son, Philip (Jennifer) Kemp of Grafewoehr, Germany; a daughter, Katrina (Glenn) Mahler of Ward, AR; 3 brothers, Skip (Vickie) Kemp of Perry, Pete (Joann) Kemp of Castile and Maury (Debbie) Torrey of Rochester; 2 sisters, Bobbie Willard of WA and Shirley Dawning of Washing Falls, NY; and 3 grandchildren, Miami Kemp, Aiden Kemp, and Tyler Mahler; and several nieces and nephews. Friends of Donald may call from 12pm to 2pm Friday, August 17th, 2012 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main St., Warsaw. A funeral service will be held following calling hours at 2pm, with Rev. Lauren Turner of the United Methodist Church of Warsaw. Burial will be private at a later date in the Penny Cook Cemetery, Portageville.
