Bliss
Daniel Vernon Barber, age 77 of West Hill road, Bliss, passed away peacefully, Monday, August 4, 2025 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. Dan was born in Warsaw, January 30, 1948, a son of the late Vernon and Patricia Smith Barber and went on to graduate from Letchworth Central School in 1966. Upon graduation, Dan decided to serve our nation Honorably in the United States Coast Guard from 1966 to 1968 stationed on the Hudson River and in Spain. He married the love of his life in 1968 and upon returning home, began his journey as a hard working dairy farmer, owning his own farm for over 40 years, "Heavenly Acres" in Bliss. Dan drove school bus during his early farming career and again after retirement. Dan loved his family and loved the Lord God. He was known for his wit and wisdom. Dan was a natural born leader, not only of his family but also the church that he served in and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a devoted member of the New Beginnings Fellowship Church where he actively served on the leadership board and as an elder.
Dan was preceded in death by his sister in-law, Sue Barber and a brother in-law, Alan Sawyer.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Donna R. Quakenbush Barber whom he married on April 13, 1968. Additional survivors include his children, David (Linda) Barber of Bliss, Erica (Philip) Burger of Farmington, and Adam Barber, 6 grandchildren, Jordan, Sydney Grace, and Corin Barber and Maddox, Paxton, and Bryce Burger, his brothers, Mark (Cindy) Barber, Steve Barber and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial calling will be held from 10am to 12pm at the New Beginnings Fellowship Church in Hermitage on Thursday, August 14, 2025 followed by a memorial service beginning at 12pm with Pastor Ron Brown as officiant. Military honors will follow the service at the church. Burial will be private in the Lyonsburg Cemetery in Bliss. Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw, NY 14569 has arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the church at 4377 Rt. 78 Gainesville, NY 14066 or the Eagle Hose Fire and Rescue Squad at 6655 Rt. 362 Bliss, NY 14024.
