Charles John Volk, age 83 of Brooklyn St., passed away Wednesday, June 26th, 2013 at his home in Warsaw. He was born in Buffalo, July 6th, 1929, son of the late Charles Joseph and Anna E. Webb Volk. A lifetime resident of Western New York, John worked in a cooperative research program at University of Buffalo, Roswell Park, and the Department of Pathology at the former Deaconess Hospital in Buffalo. More recently, John retired as a private piano teacher from which his true passion was placed. He enjoyed Civil War history, western film, history and literature, the piano and its applications, as well as his faith. John was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Denz Volk. Survivors include 2 daughters, Elzibeth Volk of Terlingua, TX and Cathleen (Thomas Szczesny) Volk of Warsaw; and a granddaughter, Tanaya Volk of Albany, OR. A graveside service will be held at noon, Friday, July 5th, 2013 in the Warsaw Cemetery with Pastor David Nelson of the Baptist Church of Perry as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, Elm & Carlton Streets Buffalo, NY 14263 or a musician's scholarship fund of personal choice.
