Arlene W. Baker, age 103, of Prospect Street and formerly Livingston Street, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 28, 2022 at East Side Nursing and Rehabilitation in Warsaw. Arlene was born and raised in Castile, December 10, 1918, a daughter of the late Charles and Nina Quested Wallace. A 1936 graduate of Castile High School, Arlene worked for many years as a telephone operator. For many years Arlene worked for the both the state and federal government through the ASCS, Department of Labor, and the local unemployment office. She became a secretary for her husbands real estate office where she became a licensed Realtor. Arlene joined the Eastern Star organization in 1936 and maintained her membership with the Centennial Chapter #299. She was a longtime member of the United Church of Warsaw where she sat on the Board of Session and Benevolence and the board of the Office For The Aging. Arlene was very active socially, and was a member of the Castile Historical Society, a former Warsaw Red Hatter, a church choir member since the age of 12, the Women's Guild at her church, the Warsaw Monday Club, Women's Bowling Association, WNY Campers and Hikers Association and she even found time to volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Arlene was known and loved by all who knew her throughout the community. She will be sadly missed by her family and caregivers.
Arlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond J. Baker, whom she met at a dance in Castile. They were engaged to be married on Christmas Eve and continued dancing for 46 years. Also preceding her in death was a son, Larry Baker, a grandson, Shawn Baker, her six brothers, Robert, Addison, Ronald, Dean, LaVerne, and Howard Wallace, her sister, Eleanor Quandt.
Survivors include her sons, David Baker of Morganton, North Carolina, Bruce (Mary) Baker of Wyoming, a daughter in-law, Patricia Baker of Morganton, North Carolina, two grandchildren, Joshua (Zoe) Baker, Marissa Baker, a great granddaughter, Alianna Baker and several nieces and nephews.
Friends of Arlene B. Baker may call on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Weeks Funeral Home 123 N. Main Street Warsaw, NY 14569 from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will begin 1pm. Please visit www.weeksfuneral.com to offer condolences. Memorial contributions are requested in Arlene's name to the Pike Chapter of the Eastern Star or to Samaritan's purse. Burial will be private in the Warsaw Cemetery.
